Workshop: Growing and Using Herbs

Learn about and how to plant and save herbs to use in your home. See, smell and taste the extensive collection of herbs grown in Doon Heritage Village’s gardens. Learn their historic and modern uses and how to clean, prepare and store them for lasting vitality. In this hands-on workshop, you will start your own potted herb plants from freshly collected seeds to take home for your garden or window sill. Admission is $10 per person plus HST. Each session includes information about gardening through informal discussions or gardening workshops as well as time to work in the Kitchener Downtown Community Health Centre demonstration garden. It is an opportunity to meet new people, get some fresh air, garden together, learn new things, and have some fun! Workshop: Seed Saving

Learn the art and science of seed saving from Bob Wildfong, one of Canada's heritage gardening experts. Bob, the Heritage Gardener for Doon Heritage Village, is an accomplished seed producer and expert on heritage seeds and plants. Participants will learn how to collect seeds from garden plants, and clean and store them for planting the following spring. Methods for controlling pollination and proper seed harvesting will be demonstrated. Participants will be invited to gather some seeds from the museum’s heritage gardens.
